Our past escapes

Since our first trip away together – to Tasmania in June 2004, where we discovered a mutual love of road trips, nature, and good food, beer and wine – we’ve travelled to Australia’s north, south, centre, east and west. Hungry for adventure and always seeking to make the most of our escapes (from Victoria’s winter mostly, but also from the ‘everyday grind’), in the short periods that annual leave and public holidays allowed we did some awesome trips. Some of them included plane flights, but almost all of them involved driving and camping – our preferred type of holiday. It’s impossible to pick a favourite from our past escapes, but some of the most epic ones were:

  • Perth down to WA’s beautiful south-west, then north to the Pinnacles and Broome
  • from Alice Springs to Darwin, taking in the Centre and Kakadu – among many other amazing sights – along the way
  • from Melbourne to Mission Beach via outback NSW and Queensland
  • from Devonport to Hobart via Tasmania’s rugged west coast, and back across Bass Strait.

Here we reminisce about the places we’ve been, with a selection of our favourite photos from those trips. There have also been many, many weekend escapes too numerous to count, let alone list here, so if you have a question about a particular destination that we may have visited, feel free to contact us and we’ll help if we can 🙂

We have been very fortunate to have already seen and experienced a great deal of what Australia has to offer, but the itch to see more just wouldn’t go away… Our solution: hit the road indefinitely!
